Brackemyre named new EDC head

Lebanon — Bryan Brackemyre has three initial goals as the newly appointed executive director of the Boone County Economic Development Corp.

He wants to “enhance the assessed value of the county by targeting new and existing employees, infrastructure development and entrepreneurship,” Brackemyre said Tuesday, April 2, after the EDC announced his promotion.

Infrastructure, to Brackemyre, is more than roads, water pipes and power lines.

“I mean the overall quality of life, the bike trails, the water parks ... that enhance the quality of life here and that will make people want to come here and live,” Brackemyre said.

An entrepreneurship loan program launched by the EDC hasn’t been as popular as the agency had wished, he said. Money for the program comes from a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant. Two greater Lebanon area companies have borrowed money under the program, and are doing well, he said, but “the interest (in the program) isn’t as high as we had originally hoped.”

The EDC is trying to add money to the program to entice more businesses to participate, he said. Businesses with fewer than 100 employees or less than $1 million in gross annual sales are eligible.
