Lebanon — In a move accompanied by audience applause, the Boone County Area Plan Commission voted unanimously during its Wednesday, Oct. 9, meeting to withdraw plans for an Interstate 65 North overlay district.
The overlay district was under consideration as a proactive measure to protect the area from undesirable growth. It would have added more controls to zoning regulations. The intersection of I-65 and Ind. 47 was of particular concern.
However, the vast majority of constituents who contacted the APC about the proposed overlay plan were overwhelming against it, APC President Jay Schaumberg said.
“I spent three hours going through the letters,” he said. “It seems public sentiment is not in favor of it.”
Schaumberg said the APC is not in business to do things the public doesn’t want, and he asked for a motion to withdraw the plan, which was approved.
