---- — Boone County remained one of the top three healthiest counties in Indiana in an annual survey released Wednesday by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. For the second straight year, Boone was ranked second in health factors and third in health outcomes. In the 2012 study, Boone was No. 2 in both categories. The rankings are a measure of overall health in nearly all of the nation’s counties, using 29 topics that affect public and individual health including smoking, high school graduation rates, employment, physical inactivity and access to healthy foods. “The County Health Rankings illustrate what we know when it comes to what is making people sick or healthy,” the study’s authors said in a summary of Indiana’s information. Dr. H.S. Servies, M.D., Boone County Health Officer, said he was pleased by the ranking. See Wednesday's Times Sentinel for more on this story.
