---- — Construction is set to begin on three towers, along with decorative panels, on the Indiana 39 bridge over Interstate 65. The panels, which include the words “Lebanon” and “Indiana,” along with an artistic field design, is being installed by Rieth Riley Construction. The installation could have started as early as yesterday, but not all of the necessary equipment had been delivered, said Tom Kouns, grant administrator for the city. Construction could begin any day, he said. Three panels, including a giant “E,” were sitting at the Indiana Department of Transportation office in Lebanon Tuesday. The panels are roughly 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Twelve panels will make up “Lebanon” and 12 will spell “Indiana.” There will be 40 decorative panels in the middle, over the expanse of I-65. These 64 panels will be on both sides of the bridge, north and south. The panels will eventually be backlit. “This type of bridge has never been done before,” Kouns said. “Other cities and towns are watching us, because they want to do it, too.” See Wednesday's Times Sentinel for the full story.
