Health department raises injection fee

Lebanon — A new ordinance passed Monday, Oct. 7, by the Boone County Commissioners has increased Boone County Health Department fees.

The only change was to the injection fee; it was increased from $10 to $20, with a maximum charge of $40. Specific vaccines have their own cost, which will include a $20 injection fee. This increase will take effect Jan. 1, 2014.

The change reflects the rise in costs for services by the health department, and the fee modification was deemed necessary by the department, the ordinance stated. The injection fee has held steady at $10 for a number of years, said Cindy Murphy, BCHD administrator.

“As we all know, the cost of living has increased, and the cost of supplies has increased and continues to increase,” she said. “But at the same time, we try to keep things affordable.”

The maximum charge of $40 is per person per visit. So if one person came in needing three vaccinations, instead of paying three $20 injection fees, or $60, that person would only pay $40.

“We’re trying to be fair across the board and not price ourselves out of being able to help people,” Murphy said. “We want to continue to meet the needs.”
