Lebanon — Four new people were inducted into the Boone County 4-H Fair Hall of Fame Friday, July 19, at an induction ceremony at the Witham Pavilion.
Fair Board President Jim Schillaci announced the names of the inductees – Daniel and Jackie Hine and Bev and the late Mark Cunningham – to the crowd Friday. The news came as a surprise to everyone, including the inductees themselves. They are not told about the honor beforehand.
Daniel and Jackie Hine were the first to be surprised with news that they are 2013 Fair Hall of Fame inductees. Daniel was born in Lebanon in 1950 and was involved in 4-H as a child for six years. He worked in swine, electric, leathercraft and tractor maintenance. He was also involved in the FFA program at Thorntown High School. He graduated from there in 1969, going on to Lincoln Tech until graduating from there. Dan was active in the Lebanon National Guard for six years and worked at Larr Equipment before going back to the family farm with his parents, Kenny and Joan Hine. He has been a full-time Boone County farmer, for the past 40 years.
Dan met Jackie on a blind date at a Thorntown High School homecoming game in 1969, and they were married in June 1973 in Lebanon. They celebrated their 40th anniversary this year. Dan has been a part of 4-H for nearly 25 years. He has spent more than 20 years helping with the shooting sports program, and he is the project leader.
