County officials will earn 3 percent more this year

Elected officials in Boone County will receive a 3 percent raise beginning this month, while county employees will see a 2 percent increase in pay and qualify for an additional 1 percent based on their performance.

It had been three years since county employees or elected officials had seen a salary increase.

“I’m glad we’re looking at giving incentive pay” to employees, Councilman David Rodgers said. “That’s how the business world works and it’s how we need to be working.”

The Boone County Council was divided 4-3 in its last meeting of 2012 on increasing salaries for elected officials, with yes votes from Butch Smith, Debby Shubert, Brent Wheat and Steve Jacob. That decision wasn’t reached on the first vote, however.

Jacob voted yes with the understanding that Dennis Dunlap, a human resources consultant who is helping the county update its employee handbook, would help the council “come up with proper numbers.”
