A Lebanon man who died Thursday, Oct. 3, after his small SUV hit a full-size pickup head-on, was on his way home from a trip to a store that he made because he couldn’t fall asleep.
Darrin K. Ashcraft, 47, 1000 block of Lafayette Avenue, was taken by Boone County EMS to Witham Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after the 5:17 a.m. crash on Witt Road, about six blocks from his home.
“According to family members, he said he couldn’t sleep and went to Wal-Mart,” said Lebanon Police Department Lt. Brent Wheat. “He went just to pick up some items and was on his way back home.”
Responding officers found Ashcraft unconscious in his SUV. Both the truck and the SUV received heavy front-end damage.
An autopsy will be performed. It will, however, take several weeks to complete toxicology tests that may help determine the cause of death, Wheat said.
