---- — Coroner Shon Hough wants to be doubly safe with the county's death investigation records. That's why he asked the Boone County Council Tuesday, Aug. 13, to spend $5,350 to buy two safes for those records. "We’ve been very, very lucky" that no records have been lost, Hough said. "We have DNA records and DNA samples in these records, and most of these are in cardboard boxes," he said. None of the records, which also include autopsy reports and death investigation notes, can be destroyed, Hough said. "They have to be kept forever," he told the council. Hough said he'll put the safes in his new office, in the basement of the new county annex at 220 W. Washington St. Previous coroners had kept records at their homes, Hough said.
