Hensell crowned Mrs. Boone County

Lebanon — In a contest so close the Mrs. Boone County Pageant organizers for the first time named a first runner-up, Angela Hensell was crowed 2013 Mrs. Boone County Saturday evening, June 8. Hensell also was named Mrs. Congeniality.

Hensell competed with eight other women from Boone County for the title.

This year’s contestants were Dione Cox, Barb Carrell, Alicia Fisher, Linda Jones, Kristy Hoffman, Stephanie Skiles, Cherly Hancock, Sonja Coffey and Hensell. Candidates must be married, be between the ages of 30 and 65, must have lived in Boone County at least five years, and must be sponsored by a non-profit organization. The women spent several weeks prior to the weekend pageant getting to know each other and learning more about the county during field trips to various locations.

Boone County Sheriff’s Office Major Mike Nielson served as master of ceremonies at Saturday evening’s pageant, held at Freedom Church in Lebanon.

The evening opened with the introduction of the contestants, who were escorted to the stage by their husbands. Each woman was then asked two questions — one that had been provided to them the previous night and the other drawn at random from a fishbowl filled with questions from previous Mrs. Boone Counties.

At the conclusion, the judges left to tally their scores. While awaiting the results,  2012 Mrs. Boone/Mrs. Congeniality Jennifer Sherrill presented a donation of $600 — raised by former Mrs. Boones — to The Arc of Greater Boone County. Sherrill also spoke briefly about her experiences as Mrs. Boone County.

Having served as a Mrs. Boone County “means more to be than I can begin to describe,” Sherrill said.

She said she would continue on in her role to help the 2013 queen fulfill her responsibilities.

As Mrs. Congeniality 2012, Sherrill congratulated Hensell after she was named this year’s winner. Mrs. Congeniality is selected by a vote among the Mrs. Boone candidates.

After the judges returned with the 2013 Mrs. Boone County results, Nielson said that the contest was decided by half a point.

“It’s so close we have a runner-up queen,” he said.

Alicia Fisher was announced as the first runner-up.
