Forty-one new holiday light displays are brightening the courthouse square after local merchants and organizations came together to quickly raise the money for the new LED displays.
In August, a newly formed downtown Christmas light committee approached the city council, requesting $25,000 for new lights after Lebanon Utilities determined the old lights were not usable this season. The council did not take action, but requested the committee find other funding options. The Boone County Council also took no action on a similar request.
The committee then went out seeking funds from local merchants and organizations. Committee member Cindy Poore said, to her surprise, they ended up surpassing their goal.
