Money is not the only factor in Boone County officials' decision to close Maple View Rest Home, 1925 Indianapolis Ave., Lebanon, where 12 people now live in what had for years been called the county home.
"If it had been financial, we would have closed it a long time ago," Commissioner Marc Applegate said at a Nov. 18 meeting. "Our respect for the residents is the reason it is open today."
Saying she represented "a small committee to preserve Maple View and to let the residents remain," Joyce Douglas, of Lebanon, gave the commissioners petitions with 455 signatures, requesting the facility remain open.
More petitions will be submitted, she said, as they are gathered at five local churches and at least one Lebanon business.
