Sue Ritz led her last Boone County Senior Services, Inc., annual meeting Wednesday, Jan. 30, as her 25 years with the organization came to a close.
Ritz, the agency’s executive director who stepped down Jan. 31 and into retirement, said the annual meeting is a time for her to look back on each year and remember the recent year’s accomplishments. It is usually a time for her to look forward, but, she said, that will be up to new executive director, Anita Bowen.
Ritz shared with the packed room the changes she has seen in the agency during her years, from 1988 to today. The agency moved from the little blue house on North Lebanon Street to the wonderful facility it has today, she said — and the agency is even starting to outgrow it. In 1988, the agency’s transportation program took 547 one-way trips with three drivers. In 2012, it took 1,266 different people on 25,616 trips with 23 drivers and 19 vehicles.
“We have come a long way,” Ritz said. “In 1988, we were Boone County’s best-kept secret, and we didn’t want to be. Now people are starting to figure out who we are.”
