A life saving donation

Staff report

The Animal Den, a local, privately-owned boarding facility for cats and dogs just west of Zionsville, recently donated three Animal Recovery Mask Kits during National Fire Prevention Week in hopes of bringing awareness to the Zionsville Fire Department often overlooked plight of pets caught in houses.

“It’s literally a breath of fresh air,” dog owners Will and Mary Ellen Loberger said. “When a pet gets trapped in a house fire, they suffer from smoke inhalation just like people do. The human size oxygen masks are just too big and don’t provide the oxygen supply that these members of the family need to survive.”

They added “We hope that they never need to be used, but we feel better knowing that these members of the family will now have a fighting chance.”

This donation will allow the Zionsville Fire Department to have all rescue vehicles fully equipped to treat both canine and feline members of the family should the need arise.

The Animal Den plans to continue their lifesaving donations of Pet Oxygen Mask Kits by setting up a charitable trust. Contact The Animal Den at 769-5100 or visit their Web site at www.AnimalDenIndy.com for more information or to make a donation.
