WW II veteran experiences skydiving for 90th birthday

---- — John Holliday, 89, of Zionsville, celebrated his upcoming 90th birthday with a 120-mph free fall from 13,500 feet at Skydive Indianapolis, located at the Frankfort Municipal Airport.

Holliday was a pilot in the Air Force, stationed in the Philippines, during World War II. He flew a C47, C48 and a Glider but never jumped from a plane.

“I never got to jump in the military because I never got shot down,” he said.

Holliday is a thrill seeker. For his 65th birthday he went parasailing in Bali. On his 70th birthday, he flew in a hot air balloon in Colorado. On his 85th birthday, he went around the Indianapolis 500 Speedway four times at a speed of 172 mph. Now he has crossed skydiving off his bucket list.

“This was more exciting than the track,” Holliday said.
