— Noah Doyle, with wife Stephanie and sons Mason, 9, and Max, 10, of Zionsville, depict the scene from Oct. 30, 1938, when CBS radio broadcasted H.G. Wells’s “War of the Worlds,” narrated by Orson Welles. The broadcast created a panic as some listeners believed the earth had actually been invaded by aliens. “People tuned in halfway through and thought it was real,” Noah Doyle said. The reenactment was part of the first Haunted Farmstead event at Maplelawn Farmstead Saturday, Oct. 27. The farmstead was established in 1835 at 9575 Whitestown Road and was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.
