— One Zionsville couple has shown the true meaning of service, and has been doing so for almost five decades.
Jerry and Sharon Harris have collectively been involved in almost every local police and fire agency in town since they moved to Zionsville in 1961. Jerry worked with the Zionsville Police Department for 47 years before retiring June 1. He is also a firefighter and EMT, and has been with the Zionsville Volunteer Fire Department, now Zionsville Fire Department, since 1975. He will retire as the Boone County Coroner Dec. 31, after serving in that capacity for the past four years. He was deputy coroner for eight years.
“I’ve always felt that no matter what community you live in, if it’s working with a church, Lions Club, or some other group such as volunteering with police or fire, everyone should try to do something to help their community,” Jerry said.
