Man tased after obscene outburst

By Ben Woodson/Times Sentinel writer

Sean McDermott of Zionsville was tased and arrested by Zionsville Police officers after allegedly verbally accosting a four-year-old and his father on their porch at Ninth and Pine streets at 10 p.m. Saturday, May 10.

The police received a report of an intoxicated man walking around, and that a windshield of a vehicle parked on the 0 block of East Poplar Street had been broken.

McDermott was at the corner of Ninth and Poplar allegedly cursing at the four-year-old and his father and trying to provoke them, Zionsville Town Marshal Rick Dowden said.

When the police arrived, the man screamed obscenities at the officers, would not cooperate and was combative, Dowden said. He presented himself in an aggressive manner with a fist raised toward the officers.

ZPD Sgt. Scott Abbott tased McDermott in the arm, and officers were able to apprehend him. McDermott was checked by medics and was not harmed, Dowden said.

He was transported to Boone County Jail and charged with resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
