Country market returns with new vendors
By Ben Woodson/Times Sentinel writer
Over the last few years, Rebecca Holloway of Zionsville has noticed the growing crowds at the Zionsville Country Market. When she started her own business in 2006 —Juggle Fun, which sells Chinese juggling sticks — she realized the market would be a great place to feature her items.
“I really like the venue they put on. It has always been packed,” she said. “It seemed like a great opportunity for my business to get out there and spread the word.”
Holloway will be one of the 150 arts, crafts, antique and apparel dealers lining Zionsville’s Main Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 17, for the Zionsville Country Market sponsored by the Greater Zionsville Chamber of Commerce.
Admission is free and many of the vendors are first-timers. In addition, nine booths will offer foods ranging from pancakes and elephant ears to BBQ and Italian sausage sandwiches.
“We are excited for a beautiful day,” Chamber Director Debbie Cranfill said.
If she gets that beautiful day, she expects between 8,000 and 10,000 people to crowd onto the brick street, she said.
While parents shop, children will be entertained by Bubbles and Company, featuring clowns doing face-painting and making balloon animals, and Sudini the Magician.
Shoppers can park free in the Zionsville Town Hall parking lot at 1100 W. Oak St. and take the complimentary shuttle to the brick street, or park free at Love Furniture, Flooring and Design, 575 S. Main St.
Owner of Winslow Stitchery, Lois Benesh, has been a vendor at the market for the last five years. She said she especially likes how the tents are set up along the brick street, which gives the market a great atmosphere.
”It is probably one of the most nicely setup markets,” she said.
