Naber wins fair queen title

— LEBANON - The Boone County 4-H Fair Queen Pageant closed its first half-century, crowning the 50th winner, Sunday, July 13. Meredith Naber of Sheridan, a 2008 ZCHS grad, was named the 2008 4-H Fair Queen.
“My heart leapt out of my chest,” Naber said of her initial reaction to being named the 2008 fair queen. “I was obviously really excited — the roar of the crowd really got me pumped up that much more.”
She said this award ranks highly among her many 4-H achievements.
“It’s a great way to finish my 10th year in 4-H,” she said. “I can’t wait to experience being the 4-H Queen at the fair this year.”
Naber will go on to Purdue University in the fall, where she plans to earn a doctorate in pharmacy. Her activities and honors as a 4-Her include Friends of the Courtyard, FCA, Jazz Band, German Club, National Honors Society, piano, Indianapolis Music Matinee member, Teen Bible Study, TRUTH, National Catholic Youth Conference and Eucharistic Minister.
She is a member of the Union Township Merry Makers 4-H club, led by Susan Bigler and Kathy Sidden. She was sponsored by the Merry Makers at this year’s pageant.
Naber’s 4-H projects include miscellaneous crafts, three years; cats, six years; dogs, six years; horse and pony, nine years; 2005 and 2006 Indiana Horse of the Year nominee; and club president.
The judges named Erin King of Kirklin the first runner-up; second runner-up honors went to Laura Lawson of Thorntown; third runner-up honors went to Amanda Haney of Lebanon, and Lindsey Nevitt of Zionsville earned the fourth runner-up spot.
Whitney Galvin of Lebanon was given the Miss Congeniality award, and Claire Garrity of Jamestown won the Tri-Kappa Achievement Award.
“There was such a great group of girls this year,” Naber said. “It made it all that more exciting, and it motivated me to try harder.”
