FedEXmas trees for troops

By Rod Rose/For the Times Sentinel

Volunteers from FedEx and the Western Boone High School FFA packed dozens of Christmas “Trees for Troops” Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Dull’s Christmas Tree Farm, 1765 Blubaugh Ave., Thorntown.

The tree delivery is a part of the FedEx Special Delivery program, which provides transportation and logistical help for community and not-for-profit organizations. More than 50,000 trees have been delivered to military personnel and their families since “Trees for Troops” began in 2004.

Yes, there’s a full-size Christmas tree in that box, being taped by FedEx volunteers (from left) Sue Gerlach, Mary Newby, Zachary Partis and Drana Mlakiz at Dull’s Christmas Tree Farm. The boxes were stacked in FedEx box trucks for eventual delivery to military personnel stationed in Bahrain, aboard vessels in the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet and to the Great Lakes Naval Air Station in Illinois.
