Whitestown — Whitestown’s water supply can now meet the needs of up to 20,000 residents, as well as industrial, commercial and retail users.
Town Council member Susan Austin twisted a switch Tuesday morning to start one of three 2,000-gallon-per-minute pumps, inaugurating the town’s pumping station on Indianapolis Road about a mile south of Whitestown Parkway (old Ind. 334).
“It’s been a long time in coming,” Austin said. “Let’s turn the water on.”
Within minutes, more than 1,000 gallons of water per minute — less than a sixth of the system’s potential volume — were being distributed by the system, designed and built by Engineered Fluid Inc., Centralia, Ill. Citizens Energy Group will provide Whitestown with up to four million gallons of water a day, well under the six-million-gallon-per-day capacity of the enhanced system.
