---- — The Ford Road Bridge project may receive a permit from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources within the next few months.

Brad Baldwin, DNR Division of Water environmental manager, said Thursday night, Feb. 6, during a public hearing at Town Hall, the DNR typically makes a recommendation for approval or denial within 180 days of the permit for construction being filed. The permit was filed with DNR in late October, leaving fewer than 90 days until the 180-day time frame elapses. The permit is needed since the construction is in a floodway.

"We are responsible for the regulatory and statutory requirements of the Flood Control Act," Baldwin said. "We are meeting to hear concerns over construction and floodway application of the south Ford Road bridge project."

Baldwin said he was there only to gather concerns, and a decision would not be made that night on granting the permit. He said construction in a floodway must not adversely affect the efficiency of the floodway or its capacity or unreasonably affect wildlife.
