---- — Ever since she was 16, Therese Burkhard has had a job, and now she's ready to have some time with her many hobbies. The Zion Nature Center naturalist officially left her post at the end of February, marking a seven-year run as naturalist and 13 years with the center. "I'd just like to take a year off and explore," Burkhard said. "I really like to get out and do things. I kind of miss doing that because I am working every weekend. I'm going to hike, garden and travel. I have a lot of hobbies and very little time." Burkhard's tenure at the center began in 2001 when she saw an ad asking for people who were interested in starting a nature center. "I thought it sounded cool," Burkhard said. "I spent 25 years doing scientific research and spent 15 years building custom homes, but I always like doing volunteer work." See Wednesday's Times Sentinel for the full story.
