---- — Whitestown could become the latest Indiana community to adopt a park impact fee.
The town council approved Tuesday night, Dec. 10, amending their comprehensive plan to add the park improvement plan. The plan commission has conducted a public hearing, and the council will consider adopting the fee during its January meeting. If approved, the fee would charge $953 for all new detached, single-family homes and $715 for all new multi-family housing units.
Matt Eckerle, of Umbaugh and Associates, said if the fee is adopted, the town would begin collecting six months later.
"The impact fee is charged only to new residential development," he said. "It is a way for development to pay for itself and the park needs it will cause."
