---- — Mother Nature's wrath made the decision to cancel school last week an easy one for Zionsville Community Schools Superintendent Scott Robison.

"It was pretty undeniably dangerous in a lot of places, not just some," he said.

Students were slated to go back to school from winter break on Monday, Jan. 6, but the roughly foot of wet, heavy snow that fell, coupled with the sub-zero temperatures and wind chill from a polar vortex, made conditions too risky, according to Robison.

"I think certainly all of us in our business want to get to it and have classes ..." he said on Friday, Jan. 10, the corporation's fifth consecutive snow day. "The consideration has to be the risk to the kids."

Considerably warmer temperatures Jan. 11 and Jan. 12 melted much of the snow accumulation, allowing students and staff to return to school Monday, Jan. 13.
