Storm dumps several inches of snow

Zionsville — Mother Nature was inhospitable Sunday night, March 24, and Monday, March 25, but local officials took the variable amounts of snow she dumped on Zionsville in stride.

Street Superintendent Lance Lantz said the town received about 7.5 inches of snow, but added that number varied from place to place. Other estimates were 8 inches to 10 inches. Lantz said his department worked at full staff starting at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to get the streets cleared and keep them clear.

“It differs every time, but in this instance, as soon as the temperature got below freezing, we deployed everyone,” he said, explaining the crews put down salt, and then started plowing.

Because the snow storm was prolonged, they made another swath with the plows again Monday.

“We’re focusing on plowing the main streets and putting down more salt in the subdivisions to allow Mother Nature to help, this second time around, as it warms up,” he said late Monday morning.
