Zionsville — After a referendum question failed on the Tuesday, Nov. 6, ballot, Zionsville may try to annex a portion of Worth Township.

The town council held a special meeting Wednesday morning, Nov. 7, to discuss annexing the area of Worth Township east of County Road 650 East except for the area that is in Whitestown.

Officials from Whitestown and Worth Township drafted a reorganization plan, which was defeated during the general election by a final tally of 61 percent of the votes (1,120) to 39 percent (716).

Town Manager Ed Mitro told the council there was two items on the agenda for the special meeting.

“The first is annexing the territory; the other is the fiscal plan that goes along with it,” he said. “You would introduce the annexation on first read today. The fiscal plan must be adopted before the annexation plan.”

Mitro outlined the next steps for the council.

“We would have to publish a notice and send letters to all the people in the area,” he said. “We would then have a public hearing on (Monday) Feb. 4. You will need to consider the fiscal plan during the (Monday) Dec. 3, meeting.”
