In the span of one hour, candidates ran for office, were elected, served on a new town council and even voted on a controversial ordinance.
The normal town council will not be giving up their seats anytime soon, but third graders from Pleasant View Elementary got a taste of what it’s like to be a public official Thursday morning, Nov. 8.
The program is part of an ongoing public outreach and education that shows elementary school students what goes on at the local government level.
“It’s just a great opportunity to get kids involved and engaged in local government,” Councilwoman Elizabeth Hopper said.
Councilwoman Susana Suarez stressed the importance of the program.
