Three companies have submitted bids to construct a new Ford Road bridge over Eagle Creek in southern Zionsville.
Yates Construction Inc., of Kentland, had the lowest bid at $1,599,872.46. Duncan Robertson Inc., of Franklin, bid $1,642,378.50, and American Contracting and Service, of Jeffersonville, bid $1,826,861.92. The bids were opened at the Monday, June 16, meeting of the Boone County Commissioners.
A replacement for the 1921 structure -- which received a new deck in 1971 but has remained untouched since -- was first proposed in 1994. Controversies, ranging from objections to the material of the new bridge to its width to concerns it would be detrimental to the area's historic character, stalled the project until late last year.
