---- — Vectren Energy Delivery is making improvements to the natural gas lines in the Village.

Natalie Hedde, Vectren manager corporate communications, said the company will begin survey work this week to locate the gas lines, and replacement will begin in July or August.

"This project is part of a multi-year process of upgrading our natural gas system in Indiana and Ohio," she said. "We will begin to retire about 3.5 miles of bare steel and cast iron main in 2014 and replace that with new industry-grade plastic pipeline."

Hedde said the project will impact around 260 Village homeowners as crews work to dig up the old lines and install new pipes.

"All of those people will be communicated with directly by Vectren," she said. "If service is going to be interrupted, they will be contacted by us. If there's any disruption to sidewalks, yards, driveways, restoration will take place after the project is completed. We will make every effort to have everything back to the way it was."

Hedde said there is nothing wrong with the old lines, and this project is just part of regular maintenance.

"We are trying to improve the integrity of the natural gas system," she said. "By doing this ahead of time, we are preventing risks for gas leak, corrosion to the lines, and so on and so forth. There are no concerns for the main there now, but this is part of a plan to maintain reliability and the integrity of our natural gas system."
