Fireworks are set to illuminate the night sky over Lions Park at dusk -- about 10 p.m. -- on Friday, July 4.
Festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. with entertainment, a "kids corner" and local food vendors preceding the fireworks display, according to Steve Gayheart, event chairman for the Zionsville Lions Club, which sponsors the Fourth of July celebration.
"We've got a live band from 5 (p.m.) to 6:30 (p.m.) and then a DJ after that," he said, adding they'll be in the gazebo.
There will be inflatables and activities such as a watermelon eating contest for kids and families. In addition, Lions Club Immediate Past President Tim Reinhart said there's new playground equipment available for children to enjoy. He said the equipment was purchased with money from the Lions' fundraising efforts.
