Dentist office promotes hygiene, helps out troops

One local dentist office wanted to promote proper hygiene and helped out troops overseas in the process.

Dr. James Nicholson’s office, 95 E. Oak St., held a candy buy back after Halloween and donated nearly 53 pounds of candy to U.S. National Guard troops stationed overseas.

“If the kids donated candy, we would give them $1 per pound up to $5,” Office Manager Tammy O’Brien said. “We wanted to make sure kids with braces weren’t eating the hard, chewy candy, and we wanted to give back.”

O’Brien said this was the first year for the buy back.

“We didn’t know what to expect our first year,” she said. “We will definitely keep doing it each year and open it up to more people.”
