The discontinuation of the town’s Christmas tree recycling program is giving some local businesses a boost.
Worman Enterprises, 10150 Zionsville Road, has seen a huge increase in its Christmas tree recycling program after the Zionsville Parks Department announced it would no longer accept trees.
“Normally we get about five a year,” owner Canda Smith said. “This year, we’ve received 150. We got 60 of them on New Year’s Day alone.”
Nicole Kouns, a worker at Worman’s, said they are taking the trees for free.
“We ask that all the lights, decorations, tinsel and those things be removed,” she said. “If we’re not open, we’ve got a Dumpster out front, and people can toss it in there.”
Kouns said the trees will not go to waste.
