---- — After successfully reorganizing Eagle and Union townships with Zionsville, the town council is looking at reorganizing with another township. Perry Township officials are exploring the idea of reorganizing with Zionsville to help save taxpayer money and — more importantly — protect themselves from unwanted annexation. The benefit for Zionsville would be something Town Council President Jeff Papa has been hearing for some time that Zionsville needs — a mayor. Perry Township Trustee and Advisory Board met Tuesday night, April 15, to discuss pursuing the idea and held a first reading of the proposed plan at 9 a.m. Friday morning, April 18. The Zionsville Town Council held a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. Monday, April 21. The two sides must have a fiscal plan approved by the Department of Local Government Finance by May 3 so the issue can appear on the November ballot. The advantage to Perry residents is peace of mind knowing they could be in Zionsville. Whitestown attempted to annex a portion of the township, but all of the residents in that area opposed, and later filed a remonstrance against, the annexation. If annexed, Whitestown would begin to provide services in the area. Under the proposed reorganization plan, many services would remain the same, with the county providing police and street coverage but the town of Zionsville taking over planning in the area.
