Rick Feige received the Lionel Dubay Youth Sports Award to packed bleachers Tuesday, May 27, at the Zionsville Youth Soccer Association soccer fields.
Members of the Community Foundation of Boone County were present along with Fiege's wife and son. The award was established by the foundation to honor Dubay, who was devoted to making youth sports fun and worthwhile for Zionsville youth. It is given annually to honor his memory and recognize an active supporter of Zionsville youth sports.
Before Fiege was given his award, Marc Applegate, CFBC chairman of the board, spoke about Lionel Dubay and how he believes Fiege is a kindred spirit to him.
"The recipient of our award this year epitomizes the spirit of Lionel Dubay. Rick Fiege has been heavily involved in the Zionsville Youth Soccer Association for over nine years, serving as a director of the academy program for many of those years," Applegate said.
According to Fiege, his family moved to the Zionsville area in 1991, and he began volunteering with the association shortly after that. After many years of coaching he became a board member for the community foundation for 10 years before returning to coaching. Fiege has also received other recognitions such as being named Indiana Youth Boy's Soccer Coach of the year by the Indiana Soccer Association in 2011.
