The “gateway” to Zionsville may soon be transformed after the town council voted to rezone the Pittman property to a planned use development.
The 62 acres on the southwest corner of Michigan Road and Sycamore Street were rezoned Monday night, Aug. 5, to allow Pittman Partners LLC, to develop The Farm, a multi-use development. The council unanimously voted 6-0 to rezone the property as Councilman Tim Haak recused himself from the vote.
“In our review, we looked to see if this aligns with the town’s comprehensive plan,” said Wayne DeLong, director of planning and economic development. “In the strategic plan, this was identified as the gateway corridor, and we feel this project fits that.”
DeLong said the main point of the PUD was to provide relief from the Michigan Road Overlay zone, but several standards were outlined in the PUD ordinance.
Council President Jeff Papa asked if development plans would still have to come before the plan commission.
“That is correct,” DeLong said. “All plans, plats, site plans, everything would still have to go before the plan commission. This is purely for rezoning the property.”
