Storms spark two fires Tuesday night

Zionsville —

The initial cause of two house fires has been determined as weather related, according to the Zionsville Fire Department.

ZFD responded to a house fire at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday evening, June 25, at 9463 Greenthread Drive and another fire at 11:46 p.m. at 3570 Flagstone Drive.

ZFD arrived to the first fire to find flames coming from the two-story home. According to a ZFD press release, the occupants of the home were all able to exit the home prior to the firefighters arriving.

The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported. Damages are estimated to exceed $100,000.

After arriving on the scene of the second fire, firefighters determined the home had been struck by lightning and had a small fire in the attic. No injuries were reported, and the preliminary damage estimates are projected to be near $7,500.

While the first firefighters dealt with the first fire, paramedics responded to a separate serious medical emergency at Zionsville Community High School.

Fire Chief Jamie VanGorder said the patient was transported to Anson ER in critical condition.

"An individual had a medical emergency and had to be transported," he said. "There is no foul play. The incident did not involve a student or staff member. The person just had some type of critical medical emergency."

ZFD was assisted by the Whitestown Fire department, Carmel Fire Department, Pike Township Fire Department, Lebanon Fire Department, Zionsville Police Department, Boone County Sheriff and Boone County EMS.
