— Zionsville Community High School students and parents are coming together to raise funds for a local boy who is battling cancer.

Volunteers are hosting a Parents Night Out Fundraising event Friday, Feb. 1, for Logan McGovern, a ZCHS freshman who has Rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer that affects muscles that are attached to bones.

The event is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for children ages kindergarten through fourth-grade in the Zionsville Middle School gymnasium and Eagle Hall, 900 Ford Road. The cost is $30 per person.

The evening will include a book walk, DJ, crafts, snacks and activities. All proceeds will go to the Logan McGovern Relief Fund.

McGovern, a freshman at ZCHS, was diagnosed with the cancer in November 2011 and is now at Riley Children’s Hospital.

Wood, a Zionsville resident and family friend to the McGoverns, said the cancer spread throughout his body.

Wood said Logan has many friends — including Wood’s oldest son, Adam, who played on the Zionsville Middle School Team with Logan last year.

“I just want to try to get the boys together so they can do their part and help a fellow classmate and teammate,” Wood said. “Everyone just wants to help.”
