Foundation urges residents to give local in Boone County

While businesses are making a push to shop local, the Community Foundation of Boone County is hoping residents will give local this holiday season.

The foundation is launching a new year-end campaign, “Give Local. Give Boone County.” and a new website, www.giveboonecounty.org, to not only donate money but perhaps time to the Community Foundation and various nonprofits in the county.

“Throughout the year, we focus on giving to others,” said Executive Director Jen Pendleton. “This is the one time out of the year where we ask to help ourselves. We want people to help us, help them.”

Pendleton said this year’s campaign came as a result of her Listening Tour when she visited all the communities in Boone County and spoke to residents.

“The biggest realization we had this summer was that it’s wonderful when we can grant out money,” she said. “We also see the benefit in making those nonprofits strong organizations. We see how we can help them with money and help them recruit great board members. We see value in convening those nonprofits and helping them move forward.”
