---- — Two midyear retirees were recognized at the Zionsville Community Schools Board of Trustees meeting Monday night, Dec. 9.

"We usually do retirement recognition in May, but we have two midyear retirements we won't let go quietly," said ZCS Superintendent Scott Robison.

Zionsville Community High School football coach Larry McWhorter and ZCHS principal's secretary Becky Thornley were acknowledged and presented plaques for their service to the school corporation.

McWhorter, better known as "Coach Mac," has been at ZCHS since 1996, according to Robison, who recognized the coach for teaching the three C's: character, confidence and commitment.

"I was just hoping to slink out of here," McWhorter said after accepting his plaque.

"I hope to be considered an Eagle for the rest of my life."

Thornley started working at ZCHS in 1988 -- before technology made answering phones, taking messages and recording absences a little bit easier. Robison said Thornley has been prolific in documenting school activities and providing photos to the local media.
