Whitestown council member arrested

Former Whitestown Town Council President Dawn E. Semmler, 42, was arrested at 1:21 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent of .08 or more, both Class C misdemeanors.

Boone County Sheriff's Office Corrections Officer David Byrum said she was booked into the Boone County Jail at 2:18 a.m. and posted a $550 cash bond at 11:05 a.m.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, Whitestown Police Officer Ryan Batts observed a 2001 Ford Explorer driving left of center at State Road 267 and Perry Boulevard. When Batts stopped the vehicle, he noted Semmler was the driver and only occupant.

"Because she's an elected official, he requested assistance from us," said BCSO Corporal Chris Burcham.
