Breyanna Shirley has never considered herself a "pageant girl." She'd rather spend her days at Indianapolis Motor Speedway than getting ready for a pageant.
Yet, when the 25-year-old Zionsville resident submitted an application to be Mrs. Indiana United States, she was hopeful she would win. It only took a few weeks before she found out she'd be competing in the Mrs. United States pageant in July. Indiana does not have a pageant for its competition.
"(The Mrs. United States pageant) will be my first pageant," Shirley said. "I guess it's go big or go home."
While she has never been in any pageants, her mother, Missy Urquhart, was named Mrs. Greenwood in 1996.
"I remember her throwing out the first pitch at Greenwood Little League and being in parades and all of the glitz and glam of the pageant," Breyanna said. "It seemed like something I wanted to do, but I never thought I could do it."
