Zionsville Fire Department EMS Capt. Steve Gilliam and Firefighter/EMT Bobby Smith educate Lions Club members on the ambulance and patient packaging.
On Tuesday Oct. 9, the Zionsville Lions Club attended a “Behind the Scenes” interactive public education demonstration at the Zionsville Fire Department. Club members were divided into four groups and rotated through four different stations including: Ambulance patients – a member from each group posed as the patient and was packaged onto the cot and loaded into the ambulance; Fire Extinguishers – members were instructed on how to use fire extinguishers and then were able to practice putting out a real fire; Fire Truck Tour – each group received an up close tour of the fire engine, the equipment and one person from each group received a ride above the fire station in the aerial ladder; and Fire Station Tour – each group received a guided tour through the fire station to see where the firefighters live every third day. This public education experience was put together to further inform groups and answer common questions the fire department receives throughout the year. Some of these questions and answers are listed on our website at www.zionsville-in.gov/town-services/fire-department/general/faq/.
