Zionsville school board adopts budget for 2013

— The Zionsville Community Schools Board of Trustees plans to continue restoring programs and reducing class sizes, while balancing next year’s budget.

That’s part of the plan for the balanced 2013 budget the school board unanimously adopted Wednesday night, Oct. 24, after Chief Financial Officer Mike Shafer answered several questions from board members and residents.

Many of the questions from board members and residents in the packed meeting room were about spending other revenue, specifically food service and textbook rentals, to offset the need to use referendum funds.

“According to state regulations, you cannot move funds to another area to be used for another purpose,” Shafer said.
