Council scraps stormwater fee proposal

Ordinance will be rewritten

Zionsville — The town council decided to revise its controversial stormwater utility fee before approving it.

The council rejected the proposal, which would have charged $3.86 per household, during its meeting Monday night, Nov. 5, opting instead to write a new ordinance.

“I think that we have all received a variety of input,” Councilman Steve Mundy said. “My recommendation is to convene within 30 days with the council, the (Stormwater Utility) board and the (Citizens Advisory) committee and allow them to come back with a new proposal.”

Council President Tim Haak brought up the idea of tabling the ordinance again during the council’s pre-meeting.

“I think the issue of credits, such as the ditch fee, should be addressed,” he said. “I think we should take the people that pay a ditch fee into consideration and relate that to their bill.”
