Friendliness pays off for Zionsville teen

Saying hello to a complete stranger can pay off with a big reward.

At least, that’s what Zionsville resident Robert Gerdisch, 15, found out at a California Pizza Kitchen when he was 3 years old .

“I would often go up to people after I would finish my meal and say ‘Hi, how are you? Did you enjoy your meal?” Gerdisch said. “One time, one of the people was a talent agent. She gave her card to my mom and told her to have me come in for an interview.”

That was how it all began for the Park Tudor sophomore, who has appeared in several plays, commercials, movies and television shows.

“For me, it was normal for him to (get up and talk to people),” Robert’s mother, Lori Ann, said. “I felt so proud when the agent was saying all these wonderful things about him because it was things that I knew, but never thought about it translating into acting.”

Gerdisch will appear in the Wednesday, Dec. 5, episode of NBC’s “Chicago Fire.”

“That has probably been my favorite role,” he said. “I’ve had some good ones before, but I’ve never been under a train before.”
