Being prepared but still having fun

Zionsville — Last week’s snow storm  — on the first day of winter 2012-13 — forced one local school district to close, and delayed classes at two others, while police agencies responded to dozens of accidents.

The storm, with near hurricane-force wind gusts overnight on Thursday, Dec. 20, and Friday, Dec. 21, left a dangerous layer of ice and snow on roads and sidewalks.

Between 9 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday, police agencies responded to 32 traffic accidents and 45 vehicles that slid off icy roads, Boone County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Chris Burcham said.
