Trail group plans upgrades to Farm Heritage route

Planned improvements on the Farm Heritage Trail this year from Lebanon to north of Thorntown include benches, mile markers and information signs, said Richard Stroup, president of Friends of Boone County Trails.

“For those who are regular users of the Farm Heritage Trail between Lebanon and Thorntown, you know that 2012 has been a year of many inconveniences,” Stroup said in an email to supporters.

Construction of new Interstate 65 bridges over Prairie Creek prevented walkers and bicycle riders from using the trail between Sam Ralston Road and Dead End Road on Lebanon’s west side.

“Currently the trail head area in Lebanon is free of construction equipment, but not totally suitable for multi-purpose recreational use underneath the new bridge,” Stroup said.

A new trail surface on that segment will be laid this spring, when temperatures permit, Stroup said.
