1928-2008

John Barton Davis of Lebanon died Friday, April 18, 2008, at his home. He was 80. Mr. Davis was born in Clinton County March 28, 1928. He was the son of the late Barton Benson and Ruth Pauline (Clouser) Davis.
He was married in Thorntown July 28, 1951, to Jacqueline L. “Jackie” (Millikan) Davis of Lebanon; she survives.
He was a 1946 graduate of Thorntown High School and attended Canterbury College in Danville. He served in the U.S. Army from September 1946 to March 1948. He received the World War II Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal for Japan.
He worked in Thorntown at the family’s Sinclair Service Station following service. He then became an employee of Kroger Co. and worked in several capacities becoming a store manager. He was manager in Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Danville, Illinois and Lebanon. He retired in 1979 after 28 years of loyal service to Kroger. He spent 15 years, 1988-2003, cabinet making. He spent several years working with his son-in-law, John Dale, at The Cabinet Makers in Lebanon.
He took great pride in his family and enjoyed traveling and entertaining his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He liked to walk the beaches with grandchildren, helping them to explore the many interesting items to be found in the surf. He also played golf, fished and liked to garden. As he laughed, loved and played with his family, Mr. Davis received his wish to be at home surrounded by his family when his life came to an end.
Other survivors include children, Mr. T. Brent Davis (wife Eileen) of Zionsville, Mrs. J. Brennae Dale (husband John) of Lebanon, Ms. Brenda Davis of Lebanon; brother, Mr. Howard Davis (wife Sylvia) of Colfax; grandchildren Cullen B. Davis of Zionsville, Evan R. Davis of Zionsville, Brandi R. Smock of Indianapolis, Kerri A. Dale of Lebanon; and great-grandson Karsten J. B. Dale of Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by son, Bruce B. Davis; brothers, Richard Davis and Truman Davis.
A memorial service and military rites will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Myers Chapel of Memories at Myers Mortuary. The Rev. Glenn McDonald will officiate. Visitation will also follow the service until 7:30 p.m. A cremation is planned.
